Letting NodisBot through your firewall

Some sites sit behind a firewall or bot protection that blocks automated requests, including NodisBot's. When that happens, Nodis shows the site as needs attention, not down, and asks you to add one rule.

The rule

Every request Nodis sends to your client's site carries anX-Nodis-Key header, a secret unique to your workspace. Add a firewall rule that allows requests carrying your workspace's key. Because the rule checks the key rather than an IP address, it keeps working even if our IP addresses change.

You can also allow requests by user agent: Nodis identifies every request withNodisBot/1.0 (+https://usenodis.com/bot). The key header is the more reliable of the two, since a user agent can be copied.

What Nodis never does

Checks only ever send GET andHEAD requests: no form submissions, logins or scripts. Across every workspace, Nodis keeps to 1 request per second to any one host.
